For the Chicken
  • 1 lb Boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts Choose thighs for juiciness or breasts for leanness.
For the Teriyaki Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce Low-sodium can be used.
  • 2 tbsp Honey or brown sugar Maple syrup is a sugar-free alternative.
  • 2 tbsp Rice vinegar Apple cider vinegar or lemon juice can be used.
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Fresh ginger, minced Ground ginger can be substituted, use less.
  • 1 tsp Garlic, minced Garlic powder can be used.
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch Mix with 2 tbsp water.
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil Olive oil can be used but may change flavor.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
For Garnish
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar, and water. Add minced ginger and garlic, stir until combined, and set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then add to the skillet. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the cooked chicken. Stir and coat evenly with the sauce. Let it simmer for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Mix cornstarch with water to form a slurry, then pour it into the skillet while stirring. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat, transfer to a serving dish, and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
