Ingredients
  

For the Beef
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (80/20 blend)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil For cooking
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • to taste Salt Essential seasoning
  • to taste Black Pepper Essential seasoning
  • to taste Cayenne Pepper Optional for heat
For the Tzatziki
  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt Creamy base
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1 medium Cucumber Grated
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Dill Chopped
  • to taste Salt and Pepper For seasoning
For Serving
  • 4 pieces Pita Bread Soft and warm
  • 1 medium Red Onion Sliced
  • 1 medium Tomato Diced
  • 1 cup Lettuce Shredded
  • to taste Feta Cheese (optional) For garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, grated cucumber, chopped dill, and salt and pepper. Stir well and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef and break apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Stir in oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. If desired, add cayenne pepper. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Warm pita bread in the skillet for about 1 minute on each side or wrap in foil and warm in the oven.
  6. Assemble gyros by placing beef mixture in warm pita, topping with onion, tomato, lettuce, and a generous amount of tzatziki.
  7. If desired, sprinkle feta cheese on top before serving.

Notes

Best served fresh but can be stored in the fridge for 3 days. Tzatziki can be made in advance for enhanced flavor.
