  • 1 small onion, diced Shallots can be used for a milder taste.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Garlic powder can be used (1 tsp) if fresh isn't available.
  • 1 cup crispy cooked bacon, crumbled Make sure it’s well-cooked for texture.
  • 24 oz marinara sauce Homemade marinara can add freshness.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Oregano and basil work as alternatives.
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika Regular paprika can be used for less heat.
  • salt Adjust to taste based on preference.
  • pepper Adjust to taste based on preference.
For the Béchamel Sauce
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter Use salted butter if that’s what you have, just reduce added salt.
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour Gluten-free flour blend can be used.
  • 2 cups whole milk Cream or a non-dairy milk alternative could work, but may alter texture.
  • 1.5 cups grated Parmesan cheese Freshly grated is ideal for melting.
  • 2 tsp garlic powder Fresh garlic can replace to intensify flavor.
For the Layering
  • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente Zucchini noodles for a low-carb option.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella Provolone can be used for a sharper flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar Use a sharp cheddar for more flavor.
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley Can be skipped if not available.

Method
 

Prepare the Meat Sauce
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in the diced onion and sauté for an additional 3-4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Incorporate marinara sauce, crumbled crispy bacon, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Simmer the meat sauce for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Make the Parmesan Garlic Béchamel
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt unsalted butter.
  2. Whisk in all-purpose flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  3. Gradually pour in whole milk, whisking continuously until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in grated Parmesan cheese and garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper.
Assemble the Lasagna
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and gather a baking dish.
  2. Spoon a layer of meat sauce into the bottom of the dish.
  3. Place 3 cooked lasagna noodles over the meat sauce, followed by a layer of béchamel, and sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar.
  4. Repeat layering, finishing with another layer of meat sauce and top with remaining cheese.
Bake and Rest
  1. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  2. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until top is golden and bubbly.
  3. Let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
