  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour or gluten-free flour

  • 0.25 cups Unsalted Butter, melted
For Boiling
  • 10 cups Water for Boiling
  • 0.67 cups Baking Soda
For the Filling
  • 1.5 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese or mozzarella
For Topping
  • 1 Egg beaten for wash
  • Coarse Sea Salt

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough, divide into small pieces, flatten, add cheese, and seal edges.
  6. Bring water to a boil and stir in baking soda. Drop pretzel bites one by one into boiling water for 30 seconds each.
  7. Arrange boiled pretzel bites on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and enjoy!
