Step-by-Step Instructions for Hamburger Potato Casserole
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté them for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes, draining any excess fat.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, milk, salt, and black pepper, whisking until smooth.
  5. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom.
  6. Spread half of the cooked ground beef and onion mixture over the potatoes, then pour half of the creamy sauce mixture over the beef.
  7. Repeat the layering with the remaining sliced potatoes, beef mixture, and top with the remaining creamy sauce.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  9. Remove the foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden.
  10. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
