Step-by-Step Instructions for Hamburger Potato Casserole
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté them for about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes, draining any excess fat.
- In a large bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, milk, salt, and black pepper, whisking until smooth.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom.
- Spread half of the cooked ground beef and onion mixture over the potatoes, then pour half of the creamy sauce mixture over the beef.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining sliced potatoes, beef mixture, and top with the remaining creamy sauce.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden.
- Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
