Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13×9-inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the white cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
- Divide the batter into thirds. Into one third, mix 1 1/4 cups of batter with sifted cocoa powder. Another third, mix with strawberry jam and food coloring.
- Pour the unflavored batter into the pan and layer with spoonfuls of chocolate and strawberry batters on top.
- Gently swirl the batters together with a knife or skewer.
- Bake for 28-30 minutes and check for doneness with a toothpick.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, about an hour.
- Prepare the frosting by beating the softened butter and gradually adding powdered sugar until smooth.
- Set aside portions of frosting to mix with cocoa powder and strawberry jam for colored frostings.
- Frost the cooled cake with the vanilla frosting, decorating with chocolate and strawberry frostings.
