Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13×9-inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the white cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  3. Divide the batter into thirds. Into one third, mix 1 1/4 cups of batter with sifted cocoa powder. Another third, mix with strawberry jam and food coloring.
  4. Pour the unflavored batter into the pan and layer with spoonfuls of chocolate and strawberry batters on top.
  5. Gently swirl the batters together with a knife or skewer.
  6. Bake for 28-30 minutes and check for doneness with a toothpick.
  7. Cool the cake in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, about an hour.
  8. Prepare the frosting by beating the softened butter and gradually adding powdered sugar until smooth.
  9. Set aside portions of frosting to mix with cocoa powder and strawberry jam for colored frostings.
  10. Frost the cooled cake with the vanilla frosting, decorating with chocolate and strawberry frostings.
