Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 1 lb Ground Lamb or Beef Choose lamb for authentic flavor.
  • 1 medium Onion Finely chopped.
  • 2 medium Carrots Diced small.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 1 cup Frozen Peas Stir in at the end.
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 cup Beef or Lamb Broth Homemade preferable.
  • 1 tsp Fresh Thyme or Dried Herbs Aromatic quality.
For the Topping
  • 2 lbs Russet or Yukon Gold Potatoes Avoid waxy varieties.
  • 4 tbsp Butter Softened.
  • 1/2 cup Whole Milk or Cream Warm for smooth mixing.
  • to taste Salt and Pepper Season as desired.
  • 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese Optional for topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and gather your ingredients.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onions and carrots for 5–7 minutes until tender.
  3. Add ground lamb (or beef) and cook for 6–8 minutes until browned.
  4. Stir in minced garlic, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce; cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the broth, simmer for 8–10 minutes until thickened.
  6. Fold in frozen peas, mix well, and transfer to a baking dish.
  7. Boil salted water, add diced potatoes, cook for about 15 minutes until tender.
  8. Drain potatoes and mash with butter and warm milk until smooth; season with salt and pepper.
  9. Dollop the mashed potatoes over the filling in the baking dish and smooth the top.
  10. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
