  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature
For the Topping
  • 1 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup additional apples thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Crisp Topping: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix in melted butter until resembling wet sand. Cover and refrigerate.
  2. Make Bread Dough: Beat together softened butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients alternating with milk, mixing just until combined.
  4. Make Cheesecake Filling: Blend cream cheese with granulated sugar and flour. Add egg and mix until smooth.
  5. Assemble Bread: Preheat oven to 350°F. Spread half the batter in a loaf pan, layer half the apples, then cheesecake filling, then the remaining batter and apples, topped with crisp topping.
  6. Bake the Bread: Bake for 55-70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cover with foil if browning too quickly.
  7. Cool & Glaze: Cool in pan for 20-30 minutes, then transfer to a rack. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to glaze and drizzle over the bread.
